who according to historical data was a close friend of M. Alexandros.
Many  questions are born. Is this a big royal tomb? The head of KH Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities, Katerina Peristeri, keep silent about the whole issue and she informs daily for all the archaeological discoveries only the Ministry of Culture.
According to the evidence so far that are presented by Katerina Peristeri, in conducting excavations on the hill of castes has been revealed, that is nearly five hundred feet, with exact proportions height of three meters and a total length of 497 meters.
In June, after a funding of € 100,000 from the Ministry of Culture, the excavations continued in order to remove tons of soil that covered the hill of castes and then the excavation led to the majestic cemeteries dating to the last quarter of the 4th century. BC

As pointed out in the Athens News Agency, at the 27th archaeological scientific meeting, Mrs. Peristeri, "the period that burial was made is after the death of M. Alexandros  to the end of the 4th century, where major historical events happened in the area of Amphipolis. Generals and admirals of M. Alexandros are related with the area. Here is where Cassandros banishes and kills, in 311 BC, the M. Alexandros's,  lawful spouse Roxanne and his son Alexander IV. "
The grave's yard is dated around 325-300 BC and reportedly has the signature of the famous at the time, architect, Deinokratous, which according to historical data  was a close friend of M. Alexandros.
It was built by Thassian marble, it was moved to the area with special boats, while the marble domes of Aliki of Thassos were placed with special cranes, made of wood, iron and lead, traces of which were found during the excavation.

According to archaeological research, a large part of the enclosure is dismantled in Roman times, that’s why many of the marble architectural members are not in their place. A broader survey of Amphipolis, in the effort to locate the lost architectural members, led Katerina Peristeri and her partners, in the area of the monument of the Lion of Amphipolis where the lost members of the precinct, found either scattered or embedded on the basis of Leo. The dating of both cemeteries and Leo coincides  to the last quarter of 4 BC century.

"After the discovery of the tomb cemeteries, as shown by our study, the tomb of Leo is associated with the burial mound of the signal which is actually the foundation and is placed on top of the mound and on the basis of geometry gives us the burial precinct "she said at the presentation of the excavations.

Introducing the new excavations, for how and where the monument of the Lion of Amphipolis was build, the internationally renowned architect Michael Lefantzis stressed that lost members of cemeteries now form the basis of the Lion of Amphipolis, while the call of marble demonstrate their circular structure and that is an integral part of the great cemeteries.
